Designing in the Age of AI

Automation is on the rise and, more specifically, artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming more commonplace across sectors, with rapidly decreasing barriers to entry. Historically, automation changed the pace and efficiency with which tasks were accomplished. Creative industries were shielded by the importance of the designer's eye and technical expertise. However, with the shifting AI-driven design landscape, we must focus on our true value as designers - in understanding the needs of our users, finding ways to differentiate our work through critical thinking, and developing solutions that uniquely solve user problems.

We are surrounded by technology tools - whether that’s in OSB’s work piloting new technologies or as Alexa keeps up with our music playlists. So, I welcomed the chance to talk to designers about what they can uniquely bring to their work, that technology can not.
